Attorney General Announces Co-location of Family Law Services

Office of the Attorney General

Attorney General Jeffrey Lantz recently announced the co-location of provincial family law services under one roof. On November 1, 2003, all services offered under the Family Law Section of the Office of the Attorney General will move to the Breckan Yates Building on the Harbourside Access Road located behind the Sir Louis Henry Davies Law Courts and the Provincial Court Kelly Building in Charlottetown.

"The new location will meet a number of client needs by creating a one-stop or single-window approach to family law services while allowing us to offer a more coordinated and effective service to clients," said Attorney General Lantz.

The new location will include the co-location of the Maintenance Enforcement Office, the Child Support Guidelines Office, the Recalculation Officer, Positive Parenting from Two Homes, Victim Services, Family Court Councillors and the new manager of the Family Law Section.

"Over the past number of years, government has worked on the consolidation of family law services with an aim to coordinate services and promote alternative methods of resolving family disputes when possible," said Attorney General Lantz. "I am confident that this move is an important step forward in addressing the needs of children and families and in helping families deal with legal issues."

The consolidation of family law and related services will also help The Office of the Attorney General move forward in addressing the recommendations outlined in the Task Force on Access to Justice Report released last fall.
