Premier and Minister Unveil Commemorative Cornerstone at New Prince County Hospital

Health and Social Services

Premier Pat Binns and Health and Social Services Minister, Jamie Ballem, along with local MLAs Helen MacDonald and Greg Deighan today unveiled a commemorative cornerstone marking the construction of the new Prince County Hospital.

"I am pleased to unveil this cornerstone today," said Premier Pat Binns. "The new Prince County Hospital is the result of a combined vision for government and the community to provide state of the art health care to Islanders.

Over recent months, the construction and planning progress has reached many milestones. Staff, physicians and volunteers are in the final phases of preparing for building commissioning, staff orientation, and move into the new hospital. Many pieces of equipment have arrived recently including the CT Scanner, which was purchased through the efforts of the Prince County Hospital Foundation's Bring Good Health to Life Campaign.

The hospital will have new diagnostic imaging (x-ray) equipment, new cardiac monitors, new CSR (sterilizing) equipment, a considerable amount of new lab equipment, new food preparation and serving equipment and a new patient television system.

East Prince Partnerships Limited, the consortium tasked to construct the facility has completed all exterior work, and is in the final phases of installing flooring, walls, electrical and technology infrastructure. The new hospital is expected to open in late November this year.
