New Prince County Hospital Timeline Shifts Ahead

Health and Social Services

Herman McQuaid, Project Director for the new Prince County Hospital, today confirmed that the hospital is expected to open early in 2004.

"As we move closer to completion, we have a better sense of the timelines needed to complete each of the necessary components," said Mr. McQuaid. "Critical areas such as a nurse call system, fire alarm system, mechanical and electrical and security systems are being installed but are not quite ready for staff orientation, training, testing and certification."

The hospital construction schedule was aggressive, and the project planning team was hoping to be in a position to move and to occupy the hospital in late November and early December.

"Given the complexities of this facility – from a construction, information technology and equipment perspective – this is a large scale project, and the fact that we are this close to schedule is very encouraging," Mr. McQuaid noted. "We are pleased with the progress carried out to date by East Prince Partnerships Limited."

"Facility Planners will be monitoring and assessing the construction and systems commissioning process on an ongoing basis. We will be establishing a new move date as soon as possible," added Mr. McQuaid.
