50 Companies Express Interest In Request For Proposals

Development and Technology

Approximately 50 companies have picked up requests for proposals (RFPs) to purchase selected assets of Polar Seafoods. The RFPs were issued by the receiver, Ernst and Young, on February 29 and March 4, 2004. The RFPs are asking for offers regarding the sale of a number of selected assets of the company, including processing plants at Beach Point and Souris, and the lobster storage and holding facilities in Victoria, PEI and Dipper Harbour, NB.

“I am extremely pleased, but not surprised, at the level of interest we have seen already,” said Development and Technology Minister Mike Currie. “Our intent is to sell the assets of the company in a way that best benefits the lobster industry, the workers and the taxpayers of the province. I am confident, from this level of interest, that we will be able to succeed on both counts.”

Interested parties have until March 12 to respond to both RFPs. Further RFPs may be issued for other assets at a later date.
