Deadline for Farm Risk Management Program Extended

Agriculture, Fisheries, Aquaculture & Forestry

The deadline for submitting applications under the Canadian Agricultural Income Stabilization program has been extended from June 30 to July 31. The program provides protection against losses in farm incomes. Announcement of the extension was made today by Agriculture, Fisheries, Aquaculture and Forestry Minister Kevin MacAdam.

“The extension to the deadline is to ensure that all producers have an opportunity to determine how best the program can respond to the needs and circumstances of their operations,” said Mr. MacAdam. “We want to ensure that all producers who are eligible for benefits can complete their applications before the deadline.”

Producers will now have until July 31 to submit what is called an options notice, which allows them to select their desired level of coverage for the 2004 year. July 31 is also the deadline to submit supplemental forms for the 2003 program or tax year, which enables calculation of benefits to be made.

Dave Aiton, manager of the Agricultural Insurance Corporation, said it is vital that producers submit their applications by the new deadline. “Those who do not apply by the July 31 deadline will simply not be eligible for benefits under the program for 2003 or 2004,” he said.
