Charges Laid Under PEI Fisheries Act

Five charges have been laid under the PEI Fisheries Act against Summerside Seafood Supreme.

The company has been charged under Section 2(1) of the Fisheries Act Regulations with two counts of processing fish without a licence; and under Section 5(1) of the regulations with two counts of processing lobster without a licence, and one count of processing crab without a licence. The offences are alleged to have occurred June 8 and 15.

Summerside Seafood Supreme is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court in Summerside, August 12, 2004 to answer to the charges. Each charge carries a minimum fine of $10,000.

Under the PEI Fisheries Act, the Province has the responsibility for licensing all fish buyers, peddlers, and fish processing facilities operating in Prince Edward Island.
