Over One Millon Servings of Milk

Agriculture, Fisheries, Aquaculture & Forestry

Prince Edward Island students drank over one million servings of milk while at school last year, according to figures released by the School Milk Foundation. A total of 1,196,562 servings of white and chocolate milk were consumed during the year by students in the 70 schools and 59 kindergartens which participate in school milk activities.

School milk was made available through the Prince Edward Island School Milk Foundation which provides milk at the lowest possible prices to all Prince Edward Island schools. The Foundation also provides Island teachers with materials and programs that supplement the student’s nutrition education. This program is made possible through a partnership of Dairy Farmers of PEI, milk processors, and the provincial government.

The School Milk Foundation is looking forward to surpassing the one million mark again this year. The program will once again offer promotions and support to promote healthy eating in the schools.
