PEI Street Rod Association's Show 'n Shine Has a New Lease on Life

Development and Technology

One of eastern Canada’s most popular car shows, the PEISRA’s Show ‘n Shine, has a new home. The PEI Street Rod Association has signed a one-year lease to use the old Brudenell Park land to hold their event. The land will be cleaned up and cleared of brush and debris to accommodate the three-day show.

The Show ‘n Shine, held each year in July, has taken place at the Lobster Shanty in Montague for the past 25 years. Earlier this year, the association

found out that site would no longer be available. Last year’s show attracted almost 400 exhibitors from all over North American and 12,000 spectators.

“The Show and Shine provides a great boost to this part of Kings County and we wanted to help make sure it would stay in this area,” said Development and Technology Minister Mike Currie. “This is the single largest event in eastern Kings County and thousands of people attend every year, most of them from outside the area. That means spin-offs for local businesses so it is important that we don’t lose it.”

The association will lease the land for one year and could extend the lease after a review of this year’s arrangement.

PEISRA president Pius MacDougall noted the association is very pleased with this arrangement. He stressed that time is of the essence, both to have the site restored

to accommodate the 2005 Show ‘n Shine and to advise participants and supporters of the new location.

Next year’s show will take place from July 1 - 3, 2005.
