Minister Acknowledges Contributions of Teachers and School Staff

Education

National Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week takes place February 13-19, 2005. Education Minister Mildred Dover encourages Islanders to recognize the contribution and hard work carried out by Island Teachers and School Staff.

Minister Dover advised that Prince Edward Island has dedicated teachers and school staff who play vital roles in the lives of Island students. “Every day, our teachers and school staff make a lasting contribution to the lives of children,” said the minister. “They create important learning environments that prepare young people for success. They volunteer their time to activities that encourage students to be the best they can be. Through their own commitment to lifelong learning, they inspire students to succeed, and to become lifelong learners themselves.”

Linda Dennis, Home and School Secretary for Spring Park Elementary School in Charlottetown, said organizers have many activities organized this week at Spring Park School. “We have some surprise gifts for Valentine’s Day, a potluck luncheon, a

coffee and muffins morning, and daily door prizes planned for the week,” said Dennis. “We also had students respond to “why my teacher is the best,” and their answers will be read during morning announcements throughout the week.”

There are similar activities organized in schools throughout the Island this week to recognize teachers, teacher assistants, administrators and support staff, transportation and custodian staff and others. Home and School volunteers, school councils, parents and students are making special efforts to thank teachers and staff for their dedication and commitment.
