Community Development Bureau Provides Support for Crapaud Exhibition

Development and Technology

Hon Mike Currie, Minister of Development and Technology, today announced $11,000 in funding for the expansion of the fairgrounds at Crapaud Exhibition.

The money is being provided through the Community Development Bureau and will be used to assist the board of directors purchase adjacent property to expand the fairgrounds, home to the PEI Tractor Pull Championships and the annual Crapaud Exhibition festival. The total cost of the project is $24,000.

“The board of directors of the Crapaud Exhibition deserve a lot of credit for their continued commitment to this important community festival,” said Minister Currie. “Our government has enjoyed a long, successful partnership with communities throughout Prince Edward Island and we are proud to assist in the continued expansion of the Crapaud Exhibition.”

In 2004, the Government of PEI provided assistance to construct a new modern canteen and serving deck on the grounds.

Elmer MacDonald, president of the board of directors of Crapaud Exhibition, says the government assistance is important and appreciated.

“The community board is very grateful for the continued commitment of the Binns Government towards our exhibition,” said Mr MacDonald. “We have a dedicated group of volunteers who work to make this event an annual success, and it is great to partner with the provincial government to make this work.”

Started in 1954, the Crapaud Exhibition is one of the longest running community festivals in the Province and attracts thousands of visitors annually.
