3-D Mobile and Electronic Company Set to Begin Operations in Atlantic Technology Centre

Development and Technology

Hon. Mike Currie, Minister of Development and Technology, today announced Bight Interactive has selected the Atlantic Technology Centre in Charlottetown as home for its 3-D mobile gaming and interactive entertainment business.

“This is an exciting announcement because it demonstrates that Prince Edward Island can successfully attract these new age companies that are doing very exciting things,” said Minister Currie. “This is further evidence that the Atlantic Technology Centre is helping to transform the PEI economy and shows young Islanders that exciting opportunities are available to them, right here at home.”

Bight Interactive is an innovative developer and publisher of 3-D mobile games and mobile entertainment content for the global market. Utilizing Bight’s proprietary Benteye™ 3-D game engine and personalization platform, Bight has created a portfolio of compelling mobile content including Street Slam™, a 3-D basketball game. The Benteye engine enables the creation of high performance, advanced 3-D mobile games that can be individually personalized by mobile subscribers through incremental downloads of content.

According to Juniper Media, the mobile entertainment market is estimated to grow to be worth over $59 US billion by 2009, with downloadable games being worth approximately $11.9 billion of that. Bight Interactive’s focus on the emerging 3-D segment along with its leading 3-D game engine technology positions it well to share in this rapidly growing market.

The company is currently in a growth phase with five new positions available immediately. “We felt it was important for our company to be located in the ATC because we loved the synergies of the building and wanted to be close to like-minded companies that are currently located in the facility,” said Stuart Duncan, CEO of Bight Interactive. “The ATC is a very good fit for us and geographically positions us ideally to deal with both the North American and European Markets.”

The company will also be leasing 1200 sq ft of corporate space in the ATC. Bight is eligible to apply for Innovation and Development Tax Credit program as part of establishing operations here in PEI. “A huge part of Government’s overall plan to diversify the PEI economy was focused on attracting cutting edge IT companies to our province and today’s announcement is a further example that plan is working,” said Minister Currie. “We will continue to work hard to attract new companies to our province and bring new jobs and opportunities for Islanders.” The Government of Prince Edward Island has not provided any money for this venture.

Bight will be provided some temporary space in the Launch Pad Incubator to assist in the development of products.

Opened in 2002, the Atlantic Technology Centre is currently home to 22 companies and over 325 employees, with an annual payroll of over $5 Million.
