Named to the Queen’s Counsel are Keith M. Boswell, Karen A. Campbell, Stephen D. G. McKnight and Charles P. Thompson.

“The designation of Queen’s Counsel has a long and distinguished tradition throughout England and Commonwealth countries dating back some 400 years,” said Attorney General Mildred Dover. “In Prince Edward Island, Queen’s Counsel appointments are made each year to formally recognize and honour the contributions of legal professionals to the legal community and to the broader community in which they live.”

Keith Boswell was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1985 and the Prince Edward Island Bar in 1987. He is a partner in the law firm of Stewart McKelvey Stirling Scales in Charlottetown where his practice focusses on securities/corporate finance, corporate/commercial, corporate restructuring and insolvency, financial services, asset securitization and labour and employment. His professional involvement has included Director of the Canadian Lawyers Insurance Association Advisory Board and President of the PEI Branch of the Canadian Bar Association. He is an active member of his community having served as Chairman of the Special Olympics 2004, Prince Edward Island Winter Games.

Karen A. Campbell was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1987 and the Prince Edward Island Bar in 1988. She practises with Patterson Palmer in Charlottetown where her primary areas of practice are public law, civil litigation and technology and business law. Her professional activities include past representative of the Canadian Bar Association and member of the Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce, Policy and Legislation Committee.

Stephen D. G. McKnight was called to the Bar in New Brunswick in 1975 and the Prince Edward Island Bar in 1985. He is a partner with Key McKnight and Maynard in Summerside where his practice focusses on corporate/commercial law, labour and administrative law, real property, personal injury and civil law procedures and estates. Mr. McKnight is also a notary public for Prince Edward Island.

Charles P. Thompson was called to the Prince Edward Island Bar in 1980. He began his practice with the Office of the Attorney General. In 1985, he became Director of Legal Services and in 1993 assumed the position of Director of Legal and Judicial Services. In 2002, Mr. Thompson became the Prothonotary for the Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island.

“All of the individuals named to Queen’s Counsel have distinguished themselves in the legal profession in Prince Edward Island and it is with great pleasure that I congratulate them on this important honour,” said Attorney General Mildred Dover.

In accordance with the Legal Profession Act, members of the Law Society of Prince Edward Island are appointed Queen’s Counsel by Lieutenant Governor in Council upon the recommendation of the Queen’s Counsel Recommendations Committee. This committee is made up of the president of the Law Society, a member in good standing appointed by the council of the Law Society, one person appointed by the Attorney General, a justice of the Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island, and a judge of the Provincial Court of Prince Edward Island.
