Studio Tour Weekend Offers the Best of PEI’s Craft Industry

Development and Technology

The Eighth Annual Studio Tour will take place September 29 & 30, with a record 63 Prince Edward Island artisans and craftspeople opening their shops and studios for hands-on demonstrations. As in past years, visitors will not have to pay the provincial sales tax on purchases of Island-made art, craft and giftware during the weekend.

“The Government of Prince Edward Island continues to support this vibrant industry through initiatives such as The Studio Tour Weekend. This event gives our local craftspeople an opportunity to showcase their quality product and services to Islanders and tourists,” said Hon. Mike Currie, Minister of Development and Technology. “I encourage Islanders and visitors alike to take advantage of this opportunity to explore the Island through the beautiful works of our culturally diverse artists and craftspeople.”

Be sure to pick up a copy of the 2006 Tour Guide and Map located at any PEI Visitor Information Centre to assist you with your tour. Each site will be clearly marked with colourful balloons and signs.

“Shoppers will be able to save the provincial sales tax on all purchases of Island- made art, craft and giftware at participating studios and shops,” said Marie Walsh, craft project coordinator with PEI Business Development. “This is a great weekend to shop and support our Island artisans and craftspeople. I encourage you to get out and see all the new Island products available and rediscover old favourites during this exciting weekend event.”
