“Anytime you want to learn more about anything, your local public library is the place to go,” said Community and Cultural Affairs Minister Elmer MacFadyen. “At the library you will find books, magazines, DVDs, videos, and audio books. Public libraries offer programs that will help you develop new skills and abilities, and the friendly staff will help you find what you are looking for.”

The calendar, which will be given free to 3,000 Islanders, is available at public libraries and was developed locally as a project for Canadian Library Month in October to promote and encourage lifelong learning. It will help raise public awareness about the valuable role that libraries play in the lives of both children and adults. Minister MacFadyen presented the first copies of the calendar recently to adult learners participating in the Literacy and Adult Basic Education Program in Morell. Adult educator Anne Morrison, who recently received the 2006 Council of the Federation Literacy Award from Premier Pat Binns, accepted the calendar on behalf of the adult learners and thanked the Library Service for their work on the project.

“You will find many lifelong learning ideas in this calendar, and I encourage you to use it as a daily tool,” the Minister added. “This calendar will help demonstrate just how much our public libraries have to offer and how far reading can take you on this life journey.”
