New Public Dental Health Consultant Appointed for Prince Edward Island

Honourable Doug Currie, Minister of Social Services and Seniors announced today that Dr. Albert Adegbembo has been named the new public dental health consultant for the province, succeeding Dr. Barry Maze.

Dr. Adegbembo is a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and earned his dental degree from the College of Medicine of the University of Lagos, Nigeria. He was awarded his Diploma in Dental Public Health and Master of Science in Dental Public Health from the University of Toronto. Dr. Adegbembo is married and has four children.

“We welcome Dr. Adegbembo to the province,” said Minister Currie. “Management and staff of the Department of Social Services and Seniors and our community partners look forward to working with him to improve the oral health of Islanders.”

The Senior Public Dental Health Consultant is responsible to establish strategies and programs to improve the oral health of Islanders, monitor oral health and oral disease trends and manage the province’s public dental health programs and services including the Children’s Dental Care Program, Preventative Orthodontic Clinic, Long Term Care Facilities Dental Program, Cleft Palate Orthodontic Treatment Funding Program and Pediatric Specialist Services Dental Program and work with provincial dental organizations and health professionals.

Dr. Barry Maze will continue to work with public dental health on a part-time basis providing clinical services for children from the Four Neighborhoods Community Health Centre in Charlottetown.

Minister Currie said, “I wish to thank Dr. Maze for his service and leadership. Prince Edward Island children and adults have healthier smiles thanks in part to his 29 years of service in dental public health.”
