The Honourable Valerie Docherty, Minister of Tourism, recently drew the names of ten lucky visitors who participated in the 2007 “Tour the Island” promotion. Winners for the 2007 summer season included travellers from New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, Michigan, Massachusetts, and California. Each will receive a special “made in PEI” product.

“This contest injects a little extra fun and adventure into an Island vacation ,” said Minister Docherty. ”People have to visit a number of places throughout the Island to be eligible for the draw. But I believe everyone who entered is already a winner for having explored what Prince Edward Island has to offer.”

The department’s “Tour the Island” incentive is designed to encourage both Islanders and visitors to experience the whole Island. The promotion includes four tours from which participants can choose.

On the Confederation Trail Tour, participants receive an “Achievement Certificate” as well as information on Island Trails’ “Rossignol Award.”

The Tip-To-Tip Tour invites participants to visit the East Point Lighthouse Craft Shop and the North Cape Interpretive Centre. They receive a "Tip-to-Tip" ribbon at one end of the Island and a certificate at the other.

The Lighthouse Lovers Tour has participants visit at least four of the seven lighthouses listed in the Lighthouses of Prince Edward Island brochure to receive a Lighthouse Lovers Certificate.

On the Beauty and the Beach Tour, participants visit at least four of eight provincial park beaches to find all they need to create a duplicate of a brass insignia for that specific beach. Those who successfully complete the Beauty and the Beach Tour receive a special “Island” souvenir at any Provincial Visitor Information Centre.

Each of these tour participants can enter a ballot for the draw for a PEI prize in the overall “Tour the Island” contest.

Tour the Island information can be found on the Tourism PEI website www.gentleisland.com/tourtheisland or any of the Island Visitor Information Centres where a brochure will explain the various options. The promotion runs each year from mid June to mid October and is open to everyone.
