DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND SCHOOL BOARDS REVIEW USE OF 15-PASSENGER VANS
“We are taking these precautions in light of the recent tragedy in Bathurst and public concerns about the safety of the vans. We will use the information from our own review and from discussions being held in other provinces to determine whether we should revise our policies on the transport of students to and from extracurricular activities,” said the minister. “All three school boards have suspended the use of 15-passenger vans until the review is complete.”
Over the past two days, all principals have been asked by the boards not to use the vans, and to use other modes of transportation for extracurricular activities until further notice.
