Disability Support Program Ceiling Increase Effective November 1, 2007

Social Services and Seniors

In the fall 2007-2008 budget address, government honoured an 11 percent budget increase for disability services through the Department of Social Services and Seniors. Effective November 1, 2007, these additional funds provided a ceiling increase of $100 to each of the Disability Support Program levels.

“After the fall budget passed, Disability Support Program staff were asked to review Disability Support Program files to identify clients who would be within $100 of ceiling limits and who had unmet disability support program needs,” said Sharon Cameron, deputy minister of Social Services and Seniors. “These cases were identified as priority for review and many clients have already received the benefit of ceiling increases.”

Clients of the Disability Support Program are advised to present new disability needs to their casework as part of an annual review or to contact their worker to discuss individual case plans.

Effective November 1, 2007, program ceiling levels are $400, $800, $1600 and $3100.

The Prince Edward Island Disability Support Program is a social program with a financial component. The program offers support planning assistance to help develop a plan of action and to help determine supports that are necessary. The program may also provide referrals to other agencies where complimentary services may be obtained.
