Construction Underway on New Tyne Valley Health Centre

Health

Construction has started on the Tyne Valley Health Centre, Premier Robert Ghiz and Health Minister Doug Currie announced today at a sod turning event at the new site.

The new facility will replace the current health center in Tyne Valley which is an old structure with limited space.

“Government is committed to making improvements to the Island healthcare system, and this new centre will provide appropriate space for physicians and nurses to work together with other healthcare professionals,” says Premier Ghiz. “I’m very pleased that this new facility will bring enhanced community-based services to the residents of Tyne Valley.”

The health centre will include two physician offices, two multipurpose offices, four exam rooms, two conference rooms and a reception and waiting area.

“The new centre will allow for the integration of health care professionals and services in one location such as nursing, mental health and nutritional services,” said Health Minister Doug Currie. “This new facility should also assist with the recruitment and retention of a second physician for the area and ensure Tyne Valley community members have improved access to healthcare services and programs.“

The estimated capital cost of the health centre is $765,000 plus an estimated annual operating cost of $63,000.

Expected completion date of the health centre is spring 2009.
