Minister Currie Meets with Island Medical Students at Dalhousie and Memorial Universities

Health

Health Minister Doug Currie recently met with Island medical students and residents at Dalhousie University in Halifax and Memorial University in St. John’s.

“I believe it’s extremely important to stay connected with our Island medical students to ensure they are aware of the benefits of practising as physicians here on the Island,” says Health Minister Doug Currie. “These face-to-face meetings provide an excellent opportunity to engage in frank discussions with medical students and represent an important component of the government’s overall physician recruitment strategy.”

During the meetings, Minister Currie and Department of Health staff discussed government’s direction in various aspects of the Island health care system such as acute care, specialty areas, primary health care, progress on the Electronic Health Record and the new PEI Family Medicine Residency Program.

“It’s a pleasure to meet with these bright, enthusiastic medical students who grew up in various places across Prince Edward Island and still feel a strong connection to their roots and communities,” said Minister Currie. “I want them to know that government recognizes that their medical skills, coupled with their knowledge of the Island way of life, make them invaluable as we work toward stabilizing physicians services across our province into the future.”
