Prince Edward Moves to Number Five on Condé Nast Traveler's Top 10 Islands in North America

Tourism

Condé Nast Traveler magazine has released its 2008 Readers’ Choice Awards, placing Prince Edward Island at number 5 on its list of Top 10 Islands in North America. The other rankings (in order) are: Vancouver Island, Kiawah Island, Nantucket, Gulf Islands, Amelia Island, Hilton Head, Mount Desert Island, San Juan Islands, and Mackinac and Sanibel (both ranked at number 10).

Every year since 1988, a select sample of Condé Nast Traveler readers have taken the Readers’ Choice Survey. In 2008, an online questionnaire was made available to all readers via the web and 32,633 responses by subscribers were tabulated.

“When the readers of a widely respected and popular travel magazine rank Prince Edward Island as one of the top 10 Islands in North America, that is certainly reason to celebrate,” said Valerie Docherty, Minister of Tourism. “Word of mouth is one of the most influential ways of enticing travellers to consider visiting a destination. That the readers of Condé Nast Traveler place Prince Edward Island in the top five Islands in North America, speaks volumes to the quality product our tourism industry continues to offer visitors.”

In the North America section, the categories for judging islands includes: activities, ambience, beaches, friendliness, lodging, restaurants, and scenery. The 72.4 score Prince Edward Island received moved the Island to fifth place, one better than last year’s rankings, in the top ten.

Condé Nast Traveler magazine has won numerous awards and has a circulation of more than 800,000. The November 2008 Issue of Condé Nast Traveler can be found on local news stands.
