Programs updated at Office of Energy Efficiency

Environment, Energy & Forestry

Three of Prince Edward Island’s Energy Efficiency Programs have been changed to benefit homeowners and clients said Richard Brown, Minister of Environment, Energy and Forestry.

“Beginning April 1 this year, the PEI Energy Efficiency Grant will now equal 15 percent of the total tax-included amount paid on eligible upgrades that Islanders have done to their residences, with the maximum grant of $1,500 per household being maintained,” Minister Brown said. “Previously, the grant depended on how much tax was paid and the grant payment ranged anywhere from five percent to 15 percent on the upgrades,” Brown added.

In order for homeowners to be eligible for a subsidy, the upgrades must be recommended in an ecoENERGY Energy Efficiency Evaluation Report.

“Furthermore, the grant amount under the PEI Energy Efficiency Windows and Doors Grant Program will increase from $30 to $40 per installed window or door, with the maximum grant remaining $500,” he said.

The federal government’s Office of Energy Efficiency has increased its complementary program by 25 percent.

The list of companies honouring the Financial Assistance for High Efficiency Oil-Fired Heating Systems’ $200 direct subsidy has grown.

“The PEI Petroleum Marketers Association currently honour the subsidy and now Ultramar and Mr. Plumber have been added to the list,” said the minister.
