The Honorable Valerie E. Docherty, Minister of Tourism, recently drew the names of ten lucky visitors who participated in the 2008 “Tour the Island” promotion and will be receiving a very special Prince Edward Island memento.

The “Tour the Island” promotion, which runs from mid-June to mid-October, encourages both Islanders and visitors to experience the whole Island and enjoy all that it has to offer. To qualify to win a prize, travellers must participate in one of five tours included in the promotion.

“This contest injects a little extra fun and adventure into an Island vacation,” said Minister Docherty. “I believe everyone who entered is already a winner for having explored all that our beautiful Island has to offer.”

The Anne of Green Gables Passport allows visitors to experience Island history and literature as they stop by at least 5 of 13 passport locations. At each location, participants have their passports stamped or create a brass rubbing of the passport insignia. Completing this task allows participants to be eligible to win a basket of PEI products.

Liam Harding is 12 years old and is very excited to have won. “We are a family of six who visited P.E.I. for the first time last summer,” said Andrea Harding from Gloucester, Ontario. “We had a wonderful time and I have to say that the Anne of Green Gables passport certainly entertained the children. We enjoyed ourselves very much and we will definitely return again.”

On the Beauty and the Beach Tour, visiting four of eight provincial park beaches on the tour, finding the designated route marker and creating a brass rubbing duplicate of the beach insignia allows visitors to receive a special “Island” souvenir at any Provincial Visitors Information Centre.

By travelling a section of the Confederation Trail Tour, visitors receive an achievement certificate available at any Provincial Visitors Information Center along with information on Island Trails’ “Rossignol Award” and a ballot for a chance to win a PEI momento.

The Lighthouse Lovers Tour invites participants to visit at least four of the seven lighthouses listed in the Lighthouses of Prince Edward Island brochure to receive a Lighthouse Lovers Certificate.

Participating in the Tip-to-Tip Tour allows visitors to visit both the East Point Lighthouse Craft Shop and the North Cape Interpretive Centre and receive a “Tip-to-Tip” ribbon at one end of the island and a certificate at the other.

Participation in any or all of these tours allows visitors to enter a ballot for one of ten prizes drawn in the overall “Tour the Island” contest.
