The Department of Environment, Energy and Forestry has renewed its annual agreement with the Island Nature Trust, Minister Richard Brown announced today.

“Since 1979, the Island Nature Trust has protected valuable natural areas on Prince Edward Island. They’ve also provided environmental services to our department in order to protect habitat and wildlife. Without their work it would be a lot harder for this department to carry out its mandate on behalf of the Island environment,” said Minister Brown.

The provincial government supports the Island Nature Trust with a grant of just over $43,000 which the group combines with funds raised from a variety of sources in order to carry out its work.

Island Nature Trust delivers a number of programs on behalf of the Department of Environment, Energy and Forestry, including protection of Piping Plovers outside PEI National Park, coordinating volunteers to watch over natural areas, and delivering many educational programs.
