The Department of Health has purchased the land for the future site of the new Colville Manor in Souris. The new manor will be located on land east of the Souris Hospital facing MacPhee Avenue.

“This is a very exciting day for community members, Colville Manor residents and staff, and health care providers in the Souris area,” says Health Minister Doug Currie. “Securing this land is a significant step as we move to accelerate the process of replacing the existing manor in Souris. Ensuring our seniors have high-quality care and the appropriate levels of support, today and into the future, is a priority for this government.”

Manor replacement is one of the key components of government’s recently announced Healthy Aging Strategy. The province committed $51 million in its capital budget to replace a number of publically owned manors, including Colville Manor.

“This is great news for the community and local residents,” said Allan Campbell, local MLA and Minister of Innovation and Advanced Learning. “Having this site confirmed shows government’s commitment to moving forward on this important project. The new manor will bring benefits to local seniors, their family members, healthcare workers and the community as a whole.”

Under the manor replacement plan, the new Colville Manor was slated to open in approximately summer 2012. Government recognizes that Colville Manor is an outdated facility and is committed to working on a revised, accelerated manor replacement plan with time lines to be determined over the coming months.
