Women’s Works Art Show for Islanders and Tourists says Minister Docherty

Tourism

The Women’s Works Art Show, which opens July 7 at the Confederation Centre of the Arts, is something Islanders and tourists alike will want to see, says Prince Edward Island Tourism Minister, the Honourable Valerie E. Docherty.

“I am so impressed with the artistic range and talent of the contributors,” said Minister Docherty, who is also the Minister responsible for the Status of Women. “I encourage everyone to view the beautiful works of art currently on display through the Women’s Works project.”

The 2009 Women’s Works project celebrates women’s visual artworks and images that offer a glimpse of the nature, scope, diversity and reality of the work that women do, as well as focusing on images that value women’s paid and unpaid contributions in our society.

“It’s a brilliant display of the talents of our female artists on Prince Edward Island,” said Minister Docherty. “Artists from across the province are represented and it is a chance to see a diverse display of talent that revolves around one central theme.”

Fifty works of art are on display at the Confederation Centre of the Arts from Tuesday, July 7 through to Sunday, July 12. On the afternoon of July 12, the art will be auctioned off at an event planned in Memorial Hall. All of the art will be available for viewing during the Confederation Centre’s regular hours. Proceeds from the art auction will support contributing women artists as well as PEI Family Violence Prevention Services Inc. for its capital projects.
