Healthy Forests, Healthy Communities - Forestry Day

Environment, Energy & Forestry

With support from the PEI Model Forest and the Department of Environment, Energy and Forestry the Craig family of Northam would like to invite the public to their woodlots on Saturday, July 18, 2009, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. (Rte. # 132 - follow the signs). This is an opportunity to learn more about Island forests, discover how people use PEI woodlots and the importance of this resource to our Island’s environment, economy and rural communities.

This fun, family event will feature everything from silviculture treatments, safe firewood burning practices, free BBQ, guided tours of managed forests, value added and non-timber forest products, displays and much more.

Scheduled features will include a hayride to and from the woodlot tour, chainsaw sharpening clinic with Mark Arsenault, NSSF certified chainsaw safety instructor and an introduction to North America’s fastest-growing family outdoor activity - Geocaching.

There will be staff from the Department of Environment, Energy and Forestry on hand to answer questions and advise landowners of funding opportunities available to assist in the management of their forest resource, through the Forest Enhancement Program.

There is no charge to attend this special event.
