Camp Gencheff has provided an enjoyable recreational program for people with disabilities for the past 50 years. The Government of Prince Edward Island recognizes the importance of Camp Gencheff and is pleased to support the camp through both capital and operational funding contributions.

“Camp Gencheff is the only facility of its kind in Prince Edward Island and the resources and programs it provides are extremely important for our one Island community,” said the Honourable Carolyn Bertram, Minister of Communities, Cultural Affairs and Labour. “In order for the camp to run efficiently, renovations are required to the facility. Our department is pleased to provide funding to assist with the much needed roof replacement project taking place at the Camp.”

Through our Island Community Fund, the Province will provide $37,500 towards the $50,000 roof replacement project. The Department of Social Services and Seniors also provided a community grant of $30,000 to Camp Gencheff in 2008-09 to assist the camp with operations and ensure its sustainability.

“Camp Gencheff is a fantastic resource for children, teens and adults with disabilities in our province,” said the Honourable Doug Currie, Minister of Social Services and Seniors. “By promoting inclusion and focusing on recreation, it offers participants a fun and safe opportunity to enjoy the summer camp experience and develop physically and emotionally.”

Camp Gencheff’s motto is: “Focus on Ability.” It offers a full line-up of summer camps for all ages, as well as a year round respite care program three weekends a month in off-season. For more information on Camp Gencheff call 569-2669 or email gencheffcamp@pei.aibn.com.
