The Western Hospital Foundation has received a contribution of $50,000 from the Government of Prince Edward Island.

“This funding will allow the Western Hospital to upgrade its equipment inventory, thereby helping its dedicated staff deliver the best possible care to its patients,” said Premier Robert Ghiz, who was in Alberton today to present a cheque to the Foundation.

The Western Hospital Foundation has embarked upon a $200,000 fund-raising campaign to support the facility’s capital equipment needs. New stretchers, beds, as well as various pieces of biomedical equipment including a bladder scanner, portable ultrasound and vital signs machine are amongst the many items on the Hospital’s priority list.

“This contribution is a very significant boost to the Foundations current capital campaign to support its hospital and community,” said Health Minister Doug Minister Currie. “I wish to thank the many volunteers of the Western Hospital Foundation and Auxiliary for their tireless fund-raising efforts.”

The Western Hospital Foundation, along with the Western Hospital Healthcare Auxiliary, are run by a group of committed community volunteers. Their primary goal is to raise the funds necessary to purchase the equipment required to support the health services delivered at the Western Hospital.
