Social Services and Seniors

Anderson House is the provincial emergency shelter for women and children who are experiencing abuse in their lives. The Government of Prince Edward Island recognizes the importance of Anderson House and is pleased to support the facility, through funding to the PEI Family Violence Prevention Services Inc.

“The Government of Prince Edward Island is committed to investing in Anderson House. This shelter helps provide families and individuals with access to a safe environment, so they can focus on their personal challenges and move towards a better future,” said the Honourable Carolyn Bertram, Minister of Communities, Cultural Affairs and Labour.

Through the province’s Island Community Fund, the PEI Family Violence Prevention Services Inc. will receive $112,500 in capital funding to address safety and security issues at Anderson House, and increase the facilities energy efficiency. In addition, the Department of Social Services and Seniors also provides an annual operational grant of $608,000 to PEI Family Violence Prevention Services Inc. to support the Anderson House outreach programs which offer one-on-one support, public education, information and referrals on behalf of individuals who have been impacted by family violence.

“The Government of Prince Edward Island is pleased to contribute to a cause that provides shelter, support, counseling and advocacy to help abused women and their children break the cycle of abuse,” said the Honourable Doug Currie, Minister of Social Services and Seniors.
