Official Opening of Art Exhibit at Fanningbank

Lieutenant Governor's Office

Her Honour, the Honourable Barbara A. Hagerman, Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island, officially opened the 2010 Exhibit at Government House entitled “Ouvrages de dames: Historic Women’s Work” at a celebration held today. This project was curated by Linda Berko, Conservator and Curator of Collections with Museum and Heritage; Monique Lafontaine, Adjunct Curator with the Confederation Centre of the Arts; and Nonie Fraser, former Director of Eptek Art and Culture Centre, who are members of the Government House Committee.

This is the fourth summer an exhibit has been held at Fanningbank. “This exhibition represents the multitude of domestic crafts practiced by Island women in the 19th century,” said Her Honour. Among the exhibits are examples of embroidery, bead work, hand-painted china, paintings and assemblages.

Government House is open to the public Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., July 2 - August 31.
