Visitors to St. Peter’s Campground will now have a better and more accessible place to stay while enjoying the Eastern part of Prince Edward Island. A federal and provincial investment has allowed St. Peter’s Bay to realign and widen the road to allow larger recreational vehicles into the campground.

“Our government has invested $85,420 to the Community of St. Peter’s for improvements to the campground to better serve their visitors,” said the Honourable Mike Duffy, Senator for Prince Edward Island (Cavendish), on behalf of the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and Minister of the Atlantic Gateway. “We continue to partner with our provincial colleagues and community groups to strengthen infrastrucutre in our rural communities.”

The Government of Prince Edward Island contributed $10,000 and the Community of St. Peter’s invested an additional $11,192 to complete the campground upgrades.

“St. Peter’s Bay is one of our province’s great scenic areas. By joining with our federal and municipal partners, we are helping Islanders and visitors enjoy this site for years to come,” said the Honourable Allan Campbell, Minister of Innovation and Advanced Learning.

“The investments made by both levels of government, have provided a major improvement to the St. Peter’s Campground, including a new roadway, important upgrades to our electrical system and landscaping improvements along the roadway,” said Ron MacInnis Chairman of the St. Peter’s Bay Council. “This has given improved access to our Park for larger trailers and delivery trucks. It has provided access for heavier wiring to allow the larger trailers to use more of their electrical equipment, such as air conditioners, washer, dryers, microwaves, stoves and fridges.”

The Government of Canada, through ACOA, made this investment under the Community Adjustment Fund. This Economic Action Plan fund is designed to help rural communities make infrastructure improvements which support the community’s economic development.
