New Annan recycling depot issued environmental order

Environment, Energy & Forestry

The operator of a recycling depot in New Annan is removing all non-recyclable material from the site to comply with regulations, said the Minister of Environment, Energy and Forestry, Richard Brown.

Department officials inspected the site today and confirmed that inappropriate materials are being cleaned off the site. The operator of the site was informed that the recycling depot will operate under an order to ensure that inappropriate materials will not be stockpiled on the site again.

“I want to assure the residents of New Annan that the operator of this site has been given very specific orders on how the site is to be operated,” said Minister Brown. “I can also assure residents that there was no risk to the environment at any time from this operation. If there are any future violations, the permit may be revoked or charges may be laid under the Environmental Protection Act,” said Minister Brown.

Department staff will be inspecting the site on a regular basis to make certain it is being operated according to regulations, said Mr. Brown.
