Ten staff members are to be congratulated for being recognized for their exemplary service, says Justice and Public Safety Minister Doug W. Currie.

“I am very proud of these ten men and women who have served our province with such distinction,” said Mr. Currie. “Each of these individuals has shown, through their dedication and service, that they are worthy of this richly deserved honour.”

In 1984, The Corrections Exemplary Service Medal was created under the auspices of the Governor General of Canada to recognize employees of the Canadian Correctional Service who have served in an exemplary manner, characterized by good conduct, industry and efficiency.

The intent of the awards is to recognize the work of individuals who, on a daily basis, are exposed to potential dangers inherent in their profession, and yet provide vital service in an exemplary manner.

The following members of the Community and Correctional division of the Department of Justice and Public Safety received the Exemplary Service Medal, denoting twenty years of exemplary service: Merl Blanchard, Joe C. Borden, Pierre D. Gaudet, William Loo, Gary ‘Sput’ MacDonald, Karen A. MacDonald, Craig McDowall and Donna Myers. In addition Frank Lavendier and John Picketts were awarded the Corrections Exemplary Service Bar, denoting thirty years of exemplary service.

“I hope all Islanders will join me in congratulating these recipients of the Exemplary Service Medal and the Exemplary Service Bar,” said Mister Currie. “We are very appreciative of their many years of exemplary service.”
