Island youth are eager to learn first-hand about the exciting world of video game design as the Game Force Designer’s Bootcamp series kicks off for another summer, says Minister of Innovation and Advanced Learning Allan Campbell.

“This is the fourth summer for the camps and each year they become more and more popular. There are six camps this summer with over 60 participants registered,“ said Minister Campbell. “The gaming industry is rapidly growing in Prince Edward Island, and the Province is happy to support programs that encourage students to pursue further training or a career in video gaming and information and communication technology (ICT).“

The Game Force Designer’s Bootcamp was first launched in 2007 through Innovation PEI offering 2D and 3D (basic and advanced training) for youth 12 to 18 years of age. The camps run throughout July and August with sessions in both Charlottetown and Summerside. Students are taught the fundamentals of video game development, including storyboarding, level design, animations, sound effects, object creation, adding depth, creating script and more. To date, the program has delivered 21 summer camps to approximately 200 youth.

The original Game Force Program was launched in 2006 as a way to introduce Island youth to the mechanics of 2D and 3D video game development. The program was initially offered as an after-school program for Island students and has since expanded to offer summer camps.
