Lights Signal Open House

Lieutenant Governor's Office

Their Honours the Honourable H. Frank Lewis, Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island and Mrs. Dorothy Lewis turned on the Christmas lights at Fanningbank on Thursday afternoon to signal their upcoming open house. The decorations have been hung with care and the public is welcome to tour the Fanningbank grounds and Government House to soak in the Christmas spirit.

The open house, Their Honours' first, will be on Monday, December 5 from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. The Christmas open house is a tradition that dates back many years to allow Islanders to view the beautiful decorations in the historic residence.

This year, decorating was completed under the direction of Mike Robison and Bonnie Martin of Flower Buds, aided by Mrs. Lewis and Government House staff. There are some new elements this year with featured items from the PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation artifactory. The children’s items on display in the Morning Room will be of special interest.

For Monday visitors to Government House, there will be Christmas music. Frances McBurnie will be featured on the piano in the afternoon and the Canada Remembers Chorus entertains in the evening. Their Honours are expected to be on hand to greet some visitors.

Those coming by car are encouraged to park in the provincial parking lot and walk to Government House and enter the front doors. People with mobility issues may be driven to the access ramp on the east portico before parking.
