Queen’s Counsel appointment announced

Environment, Labour and Justice

The appointment of Pamela J. Williams as Her Majesty’s Counsel learned in the Law was announced today by the Honourable Janice Sherry, Minister of Environment, Labour and Justice and Attorney General.

“Pamela Williams has distinguished herself through her professional work, her leadership within the legal community and her community involvement. It is with great pleasure that I congratulate her on this important honour,” said Ms. Sherry.

Pamela Williams practises with Cox & Palmer in Charlottetown, has served as President of the Law Society, is currently Vice President of the provincial branch of the Canadian Bar Association and is a Director with the Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce.

In Prince Edward Island, Queen’s Counsel appointments formally recognize and honour the contributions of legal professionals to the legal community and to the broader community in which they live.

Members of the Law Society of Prince Edward Island are appointed Queen’s Counsel by Lieutenant Governor in Council upon the recommendation of the Queen’s Counsel Recommendations Committee. This committee is made up of the President of the Law Society, a member in good standing appointed by the Council of the Law Society, one person appointed by the Attorney General, a Justice of the Prince Edward Island Court of Appeal or the Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island, and a Judge of the Provincial Court of Prince Edward Island.

BACKGROUNDER:

Pamela J. Williams graduated from the University of New Brunswick in 1995 with her law degree and returned to Charlottetown and has practised with Cox & Palmer since that time. She has appeared before all levels of court in the province and currently concentrates in business law and general litigation. She served as President of the Law Society in 2004 and is currently Vice President of the provincial branch of the Canadian Bar Association and a director with the Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce. Within Cox & Palmer, she serves as the Regional Chair for recruitment. Ms. Williams lives in Charlottetown with her husband Danny Peacock and their two children Charlie and Evelyn.
