Fisheries job fair scheduled for Souris, January 31

Innovation and Advanced Learning

Fish plant workers in Eastern Kings County will have a chance to secure work for the coming fishing season at a job fair being organized by SkillsPEI, says Innovation and Advanced Learning Minister Allen Roach.

“Recent changes to the seafood processing industry have left many Islanders seeking jobs in the industry. This provides an opportunity for these experienced workers to get together with seafood processors as they begin hiring for the 2012 season,” said Minister Roach. “This will allow our seafood workers a chance to continue to work in their industry.”

The job fair is open to those workers who have been affected by the plant closure in the Souris area and anyone interested in working in the industry.

Representatives of a number of seafood processors will be on hand to talk about opportunities.

The fair will take place on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at St. Mary’s Hall, 66 Main Street, Souris, from 10 a.m to 2 p.m.
