Teacher and School Staff Appreciation Week is a great opportunity to recognize the many excellent teachers and staff in our schools across Prince Edward Island, says Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Alan McIsaac.

“We are extremely fortunate to have such professional and caring teachers and staff in our education system who go above and beyond every day to nurture learning and to help students reach their full potential,” said Minister McIsaac. “I encourage parents and children to take time to express their appreciation to a teacher, a school bus driver, or one of the many school staff who make a difference in the lives of our children.”

Minister McIsaac has proclaimed February 12-18, 2012 as Teacher and School Staff Appreciation Week in Prince Edward Island. Many activities are being organized by students and parents this week across the province, whether they are preparing potluck lunches for teachers, decorating staff rooms or helping out with playground supervision.

“Parents and students are to be commended for the thoughtful things they do to make this a special week in their schools. Above all, what teachers and staff appreciate most, is simply hearing that they are appreciated,” said Minister McIsaac.

“The importance of recognition is sometimes lost in this age of ‘rushing about,’” said Owen Parkhouse, President of the Prince Edward Island Home and School Federation. “The Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week initiative by the Canadian Home and School Federation is one way that grateful parents and guardians across the country and here on Prince Edward Island can take a bit of time to recognize those that give so much to our children. Teachers and staff regularly go above and beyond to give their best to our children and youth. Please take the time to say Thank You! On behalf of the Prince Edward Island Home and School Federation and all the local Home and School Associations, thank you for all that you do!”
