Government has received the report of the Education Governance Commission and is reviewing the recommendations, says Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Alan McIsaac.

“It is a substantial report that contains 48 recommendations, which we are currently in the process of reviewing,” said Minister McIsaac. “Our number one priority is improving student achievement and government is committed to implementing changes that support that direction.”

The Governance Commission was appointed to conduct research and consultations, and make recommendations on a governance model that addresses matters of accountability, responsibility and authority. Members of the Commission included Bill Whelan (co-chair), Carrie St. Jean (co-chair), Carolyn Francis, Antoinette Perry and Lynn Ellsworth.

“I would like to thank the members of the Governance Commission for taking on this responsibility and for putting forward many thoughtful suggestions to improve education in our province,” said Minister McIsaac. “I would also like to thank the many individuals and groups who made presentations to the commission.”

The report can be viewed on the Education Governance website at www.peieducationgovernance.com . It can also be found through the Department of Education website at www.gov.pe.ca/education .
