Province signs agreement with turbine supplier for Hermanville/Clearspring Wind Development

Finance and Energy

The Prince Edward Island Energy Corporation is taking a significant step toward its proposed wind development project in the Hermanville/Clearspring area with the signing of a turbine supply agreement with ACCIONA Windpower, says Finance, Energy and Municipal Affairs Minister Wes Sheridan.

“After a competitive request for proposals process, we are satisfied that ACCIONA is the right choice, not only to provide the wind turbines, but to operate and maintain them for the next 15 years,” says Minister Sheridan. “This is a real milestone for this wind development project which, when completed, will provide a measure of relief to Island ratepayers, who will benefit from some added stability in their future energy costs.”

The agreement includes the delivery of 10 three-megawatt ACCIONA Windpower wind turbine generators.

“We’re very excited to partner with Prince Edward Island Energy Corporation on the first Canadian installation of our AW3000 turbine,” said Joe Baker, CEO of ACCIONA Windpower North America. “PEI Energy Corporation has done an excellent job in selecting a turbine that will deliver low-cost, clean energy to its customers.”

The wind development project is expected to be operational by the end of 2013.
