Province's plans remain consistent after Federal budget

Finance and Energy

The 2013 Federal budget will not alter the province's fiscal plans in any material way, says Finance Minister Wes Sheridan.

"In next week's budget, I plan to renew our Island's emphasis on modernizing health care services, building a more effective education system, and improving our long-term economic prospects," Minister Sheridan said.

That said, the Government of Prince Edward Island is looking forward to working out details on the renewed federal infrastructure program. "In particular, we are hopeful this program will finally meet our long-standing request for a new energy transmission cable to the mainland.

"I also want to note the inclusion of base funding in the federal budget. We are hopeful this initiative will be consistent with the approach taken in 2007, when the program was begun."
