“With this service, Islanders with a library card will be able to download a select number of music tracks in the MP3 format each month at no cost,” said Minister Henderson. “This new service is another example of our libraries providing all Islanders access to high-quality content, in various convenient formats.”

The Prince Edward Island Public Library has joined with Library Ideas to provide the Freegal Music Service which offers access to over 3 million songs including Sony Music’s catalogue of legendary artists.

Islanders can download three songs per week from the library website onto their home computer and keep the songs they download. There’s no need for additional software and all you need is a library card to access the catalogue. The service is also accessible through free mobile apps for library cardholders available in the Apple App Store and Google Play.

“Sony Music has an incredibly expansive and popular catalogue, and we are really excited to partner with them on this, a very important product for libraries,” said Brian Downing, co-founder of Library Ideas. “A library is a focal point of the community that requires many tools to excite people about library resources. More than anything, that is the reason for the service.”
