New website offers information for beach goers

Tourism and Culture

A new website developed by the province will provide beach lovers with up-to-date information on conditions at all supervised provincial park beaches, says Minister of Tourism and Culture Robert Henderson.

“The new beach reports website will be a valuable resource for anyone that enjoys a day at the beach,” said Minister Henderson. “The website will offer up-to-date information on surf conditions, water and air temperature, hours of supervision and links to important information on water safety.”

Surf lifeguards at each location will update conditions online as needed. The first update will be made each morning so beach goers have the best information possible before they head out for the day.

“It’s very important to offer this kind of information online and in real time,” said Minister Henderson. “If beach goers are aware of the conditions at a certain location, it may influence their decision on whether it’s a good day to go to the beach. It’s never fun when you arrive at the beach only to find out dangerous conditions will prevent you from enjoying the water.”

Information will be provided for the following provincial park beaches: Jacques Cartier, Cedar Dunes, Chelton Beach, Cabot Park, Northumberland, Panmure Island, Red Point and Basin Head.

The website is located at www.tourismpei.com/beachreports.
