Innovation PEI

Once again, Islanders and visitors will have an opportunity to see the beauty and originality of work created by Island artisans during the 15th annual Studio Tour Weekend, says Innovation and Advance Learning Minister Allen F. Roach.

“Prince Edward Island has a rich history and culture in creating some of the best craft, art and giftware items in the world,” said Minister Roach. “Our government is proud to partner with Island artists to promote the craft industry. We are encouraging people to visit Prince Edward Island studios this weekend to experience the quality craftsmanship and creativity of our artisans.”

September 21 - September 22, Innovation PEI will once again support the PEI Craft Council’s Studio Tour Weekend. This year, 53 studios and galleries are participating and are promoting a wide variety of items including pottery, jewellery, wood, metals, glass, visual art, textiles and many other handcrafted products. Many sites around the province will have artisans hosting demonstrations throughout the weekend. A 10 percent discount will also be available at most locations.

“On behalf of the PEI CC, I invite you come out and explore Island studios. Come meet our warm and talented artisans in their own spaces and share the story behind the craft. Our Island artisans are offering both the gift of their talent and time this weekend, so please come and share the experience with them,” said Susana Rutherford, President of PEI Crafts Council.

“Island artists and craftspeople are small businesses, which help to create our unique Island culture, while creating year-round income and jobs for our provincial economy,” said Minister Roach. “This weekend is an opportunity for people to get out and see beautiful Island-made quality products and support the individuals who make up this vibrant industry.

The self-guided tour will provide an insight into how the products are created along with demonstrating the tremendous range of hand crafted products that are available throughout our province.
