No decisions have been made on East Royalty traffic plan

Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal

No decisions have been made on how to deal with heavier traffic anticipated from potential new development in East Royalty, Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Minister Robert Vessey said.

“Our department and the city of Charlottetown commissioned a traffic study only to provide suggestions for how to manage increased traffic in East Royalty,” Minister Vessey said. “It’s highly premature for anyone to comment on the type of improvements, their location, or the timeline, because no decisions have been made.”

The traffic study’s recommendations were presented at an information session Monday night by consultant McCormick Rankin. It recommended creating “controlled” intersections (with either traffic signals or roundabouts) at three locations along St. Peter’s Road: at Oakland Drive, Angus Drive and MacWilliams Road.

Charlottetown and the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal are engaged in an ongoing process with the community on the potential improvements. The department and the minister will have the final say on the type and location of improvements that will be made to our provincial highways.
