Volunteers recognized during Canadian Library Month

Tourism and Culture

October is Canadian Library Month, and to celebrate the province is recognizing many of the volunteers who do so much to promote literacy and who contribute time and effort to assist the public library service, says Minister of Tourism and Culture Robert Henderson.

“Volunteers play a vital role in the services we deliver through our public libraries,” said Minister Henderson. “Canadian Library Month is an excellent opportunity to recognize their contribution and to shine a light on the important contribution libraries make to life on Prince Edward Island. To each and every one of our volunteers I say thank you.”

The theme of this year’s Canadian Library Month is “libraries connect.” It serves as a reminder of the importance of libraries in the interconnected world in which we live. Libraries are often the center of communities, and they provide space for people to learn, meet, connect and grow.

“The Public Library Service on Prince Edward Island is committed to continually improving resources in order to link patrons with the services they need,” said Minister Henderson. “That’s why we’re always looking at new technologies and new media that enhance the service we provide Islanders.”
