A Royal Visit to Prince Edward Island for 2014

Lieutenant Governor's Office

There is excitement and interest across the province and Canada at the announcement by His Excellency the Governor General that Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will visit Prince Edward Island in May.

“Today’s announcement that a Royal Visit is mere months away is wonderful news,” said the Honourable Frank Lewis, Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island. “We have yet another reason to declare that Prince Edward Island is the place to be in 2014.”

Many details have yet to be discussed between Clarence House in London, Rideau Hall, and the Governments of Canada and Prince Edward Island.

His Honour is ready to welcome Their Royal Highnesses to Government House, if the opportunity is presented.

“This visit is, in part, to mark the milestone of 150 years since the Fathers of Confederation first met in Charlottetown and decided to form a single nation, Canada. Government House was host to all the delegates and we welcome sharing that history,” added His Honour.

His Honour notes that the last time His Royal Highness visited PEI, in 1983, he was a new father to a twelve-month-old Prince William, and on this occasion he will be a new grandfather to a ten-month-old Prince George.

This will be Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall’s first visit to the province, and His Honour said that PEI is certainly ready to showcase our beautiful and friendly province for her.
