Starting with New Year’s Eve and continuing through the month of January, the PEI 2014 celebrations got off to a resounding success across the province. February will see even more events and activities taking place throughout the Island as the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the 1864 Charlottetown Conference continues.

“It’s been tremendous to see groups and communities holding successful PEI 2014 events right across the Island over the last month,” says Minister of Tourism and Culture, Robert Henderson. “We look forward to another outstanding month in February and continued momentum through the 2014 celebration year.”

PEI 2014 events and activities scheduled for the month of February:

• Heritage Garden Competition: February 1st – The PEI Rural Beautification Society is issuing a call for submissions for its 2014 Heritage Garden Competition. www.peirbs.ca

• O’Brien National Harness Racing Awards: February 7th & 8th – The O'Brien Awards are the recognition of Canadian harness racing excellence. They are named in honour of the late Joe O’Brien, a native of Alberton, PEI who was one of the world’s premier harness racing competitors. The awards attract over 500 of the leading participants in harness racing from across North America. www.peiharnessracing.com

• Miltonvale Park – 2014 Minutes of Stories & Song: February 7th – Miltonvale Park will host the second installment of its 2014 Stories & Song series. On the first Friday of every month, Milton Community Hall will play host to an evening of music and tales that celebrate PEI and its way of life. www.miltonvalepark.com

• De la lecture pour mieux connaître notre passé: February 10th - 14th - Ecole La-Belle-Cloche will host a week-long reading festival designed to promote reading at the school with the focus on local French books. The wrap up event will include an official opening of the library for students and parents.

• Heritage Dinner: February 12th – As part of its year-long calendar of events, the Farm Centre will host a Heritage Dinner honouring the PEI Atlantic Agriculture Hall of Fame recipients. www.peifarmcentre.com

• 2014 Atlantic Ringette Championships: February 14th - 16th - The best ringette players in the region will compete in the Atlantic Ringette Championships in Charlottetown and Montague. Twenty teams will compete in the U14, U16, U19, and 18+ divisions. The event will also host two National Ringette League games between the Atlantic Attack and the Montreal Mission. www.ringettepei.ca

• Trinity Clifton Celebrates 2014: February 15th – Trinity Clifton United Church will continue with its PEI 2014 activities by hosting a Valentine’s Dinner. www.trinityclifton.org

• Kellys Cross Family Fun Festival: February 16th – Continuing with their year-long calendar of activities, a ceilidh will be held at the Kellys Cross Community Centre on February 16th. The Community Centre will host ceilidhs the third Sunday of every month in 2014.

• PEI 2014 Winter Celebration Snowmobile Ride: February 19th - 21st – The Prince Edward Island Snowmobile Association will host a three-day snowmobile tour of the entire province from tip to tip. www.peisa.ca

• Festival du bon vieux temps: February 23rd – Fun filled evenings will be held at le Centre acadien de Prince-Ouest. Events will be held the last Sunday of each month for the whole year. The next event is scheduled for February 23rd. www.seperrey.org

In 2014, Canadians will mark the 150th anniversary (Sesquicentennial) of the historic 1864 Charlottetown Conference, which paved the way to Confederation. PEI 2014 Inc. is facilitating the planning, promotion and implementation of the Sesquicentennial celebrations.
