New addition to festival ties in with PEI 2014 Celebrations

One of PEI’s most successful music festivals, the TD PEI Jazz & Blues Festival, will benefit from federal and provincial support. The annual festival will be expanded in 2014 to include the Confederation Concert Series which will feature performances by artists from every province in Canada.

“Canada is a premier tourism destination, and our Government continues to support small and medium-sized businesses and tourism groups through projects that help promote and strengthen this important industry,” said the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, on behalf of the Honourable Rob Moore, Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency). “The Jazz and Blues Festival is a wonderful event that celebrates arts and culture, and further promotes the Atlantic Canadian region. I am pleased to announce that our Government, through ACOA, is contributing $15,000 towards this event.”

“We are thrilled that the TD PEI Jazz & Blues Festival will be presenting the Confederation Concert Series with assistance from a $25,000 PEI 2014 Fund grant,” said Minister of Tourism and Culture, Robert Henderson. “This new concert series will augment an already fantastic music festival while attracting artists and music fans from across the country to Prince Edward Island during the 2014 celebration year.”

During its 10th anniversary this coming summer, the TD PEI Jazz & Blues Festival will be able to boast that it has featured 200 performances – 196 of them featuring Canadian artists.

“We are thrilled to be mounting an enhanced and expanded festival during the PEI 2014 celebrations,” says TD PEI Jazz & Blues Festival Chair, Doug Millington. “We’ve been delivering world-class entertainment with a special focus on Canadian artists for a decade now. We are confident 2014 will be our best year yet.”

The TD PEI Jazz & Blues Festival will take place August 21-23, 2014 in Charlottetown.

In 2014, Canadians will mark the 150th anniversary (Sesquicentennial) of the historic 1864 Charlottetown Conference, which paved the way to Confederation. PEI 2014 Inc. is facilitating the planning, promotion and implementation of the Sesquicentennial celebrations. The PEI 2014 celebrations are made possible through generous support from the Government of Canada, the Government of Prince Edward Island, and the City of Charlottetown. The year-long and province-wide PEI 2014 program of events will honour the past, celebrate the present and plan a bold tomorrow.
